San Pedro de Atacama"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We woke up at the campsite and were greeted by the ever friendly Louis.\u00a0 The previous night Louis had, helpfully, assisted me with my tent so that it looked like a large tree had fallen on it several times.\u00a0 He appeared to have taken a shine to me.\u00a0 That and a combination of being slightly bored meant that he appeared at every possible opportunity.\u00a0 He also tried to speak to me, made comedy gestures and then did sad sighs and winks.\u00a0 After the standard Louis encounter we headed into San Pedro.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The town itself was nice in its own way and we decided it wasn\u00b4t the hell-hole we had thought it was the day before.\u00a0 It was touristy though with artisan stalls everywhere and places to stay and eat.\u00a0 The food was surprisingly good with a lot of vegetarian options presumably catering for the hippy types but pleasing to me all the same.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>From the town we headed to the\u00a0rather reassuringly titled Valle de Muerta (Valley of Death) out of the town.\u00a0 This is one of the places where people sandboard as there are huge dunes.\u00a0 Having driven down a track, which we were grateful to have a significant amount of ground clearance for, we stopped as it got very sandy.\u00a0 We got out momentarily, were sandblasted, and got back in the car.\u00a0 The place was stunning but slightly too windy to enjoy a walk, unless you like having a faceful of sand continually that is.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So we drove out of the deathly valley and headed for the more friendly sounding Valle de la Luna (Valley of the moon).\u00a0 There was an entrance gate where you could read informative signs, paid your entrance fee for the park and were given a map with suggested stop off points.\u00a0 The first of these was an area of channels and caves through huge salt cliffs.\u00a0 The place was amazing with sand covered salt banks and shaded channels between.\u00a0 We walked through until we got to a very dark tunnel.\u00a0 We couldn\u00b4t really figure out if it was a cave or whether it actually went anywhere and, as we didn\u00b4t have a torch, we headed back out.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After the caves we carried on through the park stopping at various other amazing places to look around.\u00a0 You could see where the place had got its name from with awesome rock formations and lunar landscapes.\u00a0 The final place to stop was the three marias which were three kind of towers of rock which, I guess were meant to look like the three Mary\u00b4s.\u00a0 They didn\u00b4t.\u00a0 Although Dad thought that one of them looked a bit like a frog.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Back at the campsite Mum and I decided to handwash some clothes.\u00a0 This was of great interest to Louis who stood watching us.\u00a0 We had another nice night at the campsite, enjoying the surroundings and quiet.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We woke up at the campsite and were greeted by the ever friendly Louis.\u00a0 The previous night Louis had, helpfully, assisted me with my tent so that it looked like a large tree had fallen on it several times.\u00a0 He appeared to have taken a shine to me.\u00a0 That and a combination of being slightly [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[1],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/152"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=152"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/152\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=152"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=152"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=152"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
