{"id":36,"date":"2008-05-10T11:37:20","date_gmt":"2008-05-10T11:37:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/?p=36"},"modified":"2008-05-10T11:37:20","modified_gmt":"2008-05-10T11:37:20","slug":"friday-2nd-may-champasak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/?p=36","title":{"rendered":"Friday 2nd May &#8211; Champasak"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve just realised that I published the last page in different colours.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll try not to do that with this one but you never know!<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So, back in Champasak.\u00a0 I woke up and went and had breakfast at a lovely restaurant overlooking the river.\u00a0 I was planning on cycling to the temple (the main reason anyone visits Champasak) but somehow managed to find myself being measured up for a traditional Laos skirt.\u00a0 The woman said that I should come back at 4pm to collect it.\u00a0 I went to a restuarant to buy the obligatory lemon juice and bumped into a group of American girls who I had seen in Vang Vieng.\u00a0 They asked if I wanted to cycle to the temple with them and I declined thinking that I didn&#8217;t have enough time.\u00a0 I then realised that I didn&#8217;t really want to stay for an extra day so really needed to go to the temple.\u00a0 So I hired a bike and pedalled like a woman possessed.\u00a0 I was overtaking all the locals and at one point nearly overtook a motorbike, then I realised that they were stopping so it wasn&#8217;t quite as impressive!\u00a0 Finally I arrived at the temple with a lovely layer of sweat.\u00a0 As I arrived the heavens opened and the American girls decided it was a good time to have lunch.\u00a0 We sat in a cafe, ate (I drank more lemon juice) and then decided that the rain was not going to desist.\u00a0 The ride to the temple was very short, although it is disconcerting when you\u00a0can&#8217;t\u00a0actually differentiate between sweat wetness and rain wetness.\u00a0 Okay, that&#8217;s pretty grim actually, I&#8217;ll move on..<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The temple itself was amazing.\u00a0 It&#8217;s called Wat Phou and is described as &#8220;easily the most evocative Khmer ruin outside Cambodian borders&#8221;.\u00a0 The site itself is on a mountainside and consists of a complex of pre-Angkorian temples dating from the sixth to twelfth centuries.\u00a0 Having looked around for a while I realised I\u00a0needed to get back to collect\u00a0my skirt and said my goodbyes to the girls.\u00a0 It&#8217;s long and\u00a0the most exquisite material.\u00a0 In the evening I wandered down to the American girls guesthouse and had some food and a few Beer Laos to the sound of a guy playing his guitar.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve just realised that I published the last page in different colours.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll try not to do that with this one but you never know! \u00a0 So, back in Champasak.\u00a0 I woke up and went and had breakfast at a lovely restaurant overlooking the river.\u00a0 I was planning on cycling to the temple (the main [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[1],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/36"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=36"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/36\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=36"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=36"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=36"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
