{"id":87,"date":"2008-08-05T01:25:48","date_gmt":"2008-08-05T01:25:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/?p=87"},"modified":"2008-08-05T01:25:48","modified_gmt":"2008-08-05T01:25:48","slug":"wednesday-9th-july-to-saturday-12th-july-perth-and-around","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/?p=87","title":{"rendered":"Wednesday 9th July to Saturday 12th July &#8211; Perth and around"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the Wednesday Carol and Iris drove me into Perth to have a look around the city.\u00a0 We went to Kings&#8217; Park which is a huge park on a hill overlooking the city.\u00a0 The views were amazing down over the cityscape and the lakes\/ rivers of the city.\u00a0 There was also some really interesting plants and I found the boab trees in particular really funny.\u00a0 A boab is a kind of bulbous looking almost tuber like tree and, to me, they looked really bizarre.\u00a0 We walked around the park and then had lunch at the cafe prior to seeing a little more of Perth and the surrounding area.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The following day I went to Perth aquarium with Iris and Carol.\u00a0 I was tempted to go to the aquarium in Singapore but an Australian couple had advised me to wait until I got to Perth and I was glad that I did.\u00a0 The place was divided into sections of Australia and the respective marine life in each.\u00a0 The most spectacular display was a moving walkway which took you round underneath a huge tank full of fish, sharks, turtles and huge rays.\u00a0 The seals were also brilliant and one of them was very inquisitive almost playing with onlookers at the glass.\u00a0 There was a touch pool and I stroked a dogfish as well as picking up a starfish who didn&#8217;t seem to mind the attention.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On the Friday Carol was again a star and drove Iris and I to Freemantle, known to locals as Free-O.\u00a0 Freemantle was a very cool place with a lovely market selling all kinds of wares and was full of\u00a0great streets with old architecture and shops.\u00a0 It reminded me very much of Woodbridge in Suffolk at home in parts as it had a similar quaint, old feel about it.\u00a0 We browsed through the market and bought some food for dinner before driving back along the coast.\u00a0 The coastline was amazing with views of beaches stretching as far as the eye could see.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday I had a bit of a lie in and went to pick-up my car that I had arranged to hire for a bit of a jolly North.\u00a0 I spent the night at\u00a0Carol and Mike&#8217;s house rather than Iris and Jim&#8217;s.\u00a0 Carol took me to her daughter&#8217;s house where I\u00a0also saw her horses and the general set-up of the place.\u00a0 In the\u00a0evening Carol&#8217;s daughter and husband came over and her grand daughter was also there for dinner.\u00a0 The following morning Carol and Mike cooked the most amazing fry-up on the barbeque which was another very welcome feed reminding me\u00a0of England.\u00a0\u00a0Iris had previously also cooked me the best fish and chips and had also fed me my first ever shark which was out of this World.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On the Wednesday Carol and Iris drove me into Perth to have a look around the city.\u00a0 We went to Kings&#8217; Park which is a huge park on a hill overlooking the city.\u00a0 The views were amazing down over the cityscape and the lakes\/ rivers of the city.\u00a0 There was also some really interesting plants [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[1],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/87"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=87"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/87\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=87"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=87"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.zelmastrip.com\/wordpress\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=87"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
